Hour of Code with GoCode
In celebration of the Computer Education Week, GoCode Gulf facilitated an Hour of Code (HoC) at the Vision International School in Al Wakra to inspire students to code and to discuss how computer science impacts our lives. HoC is a global movement that shows young learners what it takes to create the programs and apps they spend so much time using.
The Hour of Code started as a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify code, to show that anybody can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of computer science. It has since become a worldwide effort to celebrate computer science, starting with 1-hour coding activities but expanding to all sorts of community efforts.
At VIS, 50+ students of grades 4, 5 and 9 were given an introduction to the world of coding and programming by our expert mentors. Block-coding using Scratch, text-based coding using Python and coding games using micro:bit, sphero and Fable robotics were some of the workshops provided. Each workshop was conducted for a duration of 1 hour.
The primary goal of conducting workshops like HoC is to spread awareness about Computer Science as it is the foundation for success in any 21st century career path.
The event witnessed great enthusiasm from students and teachers alike and managed to kindle curiosity and interest among all who participated.
